Credit Card Fraud

Credit card fraud is one of billions of dollars of crime in North America. It is becoming an increasingly popular form of identity theft due to advances in technology and printing can be done anonymously with little or no risk of being prosecuted, even if it is discovered. Often used the card numbers to make purchases over the phone or the Internet, but sometimes advanced schemers can create a copy of your credit card with magnetic stripe, signature, and security features.

Fraud artists have dozens of ways of gathering information. It can be as simple as convincing an employee in a restaurant, gas station or down to copy credit card numbers throughout the day, or as advanced as the planting of an error at the point of sale equipment, or even unplugging and replacement of a card reader right in front of the request table at a point of sale. Descremado is the most common and the fastest way schemers receive data from the credit card. The individual brings a small box the size of a cell phone or pager. In the past you had to make a skimmer yourself, but now you can buy various places online. Swiping the card by the device gets all the data necessary to counterfeit right off the card, which can then be downloaded to a computer. Often, the data are sent to overseas factories that produce high-quality fraudulent cards by the thousands. The letters are then sent to criminal gangs throughout the world.

Some of the standard safety features found on most types of cards include reliefs, micro-printing, and printing visible only under black light or ultraviolet light. As technology improves, so does the need for greater security. Some cards contain a microchip inside them, which is almost impossible to repeat. The countries that have applied this system there has been a reduction in this type of credit card fraud reduced by up to 80%. Some countries also require a PIN number which came at the time of credit card processing as well. It is the responsibility of store managers to implement procedures to protect customer information.

Suppliers of credit cards, such as Visa and MasterCard have security procedures and protocols of a company must meet in order to safeguard both the merchant account and the person. If you notice that someone has skimmed your card during the transaction and call the supplier put a hold on the account. Make a mental note of the physical description of the individual, such as height, weight, eye color or hair, skin tone, and what clothes they are wearing. Immediately report suspicious individuals to law enforcement.
