Video Conferencing: Basics & Benefits

Benefits of Videoconferencing

Videoconferencing hardware and software allows users to see and hear the person you are communicating with.

A videoconference allowed to participate live audio / video presentations in class, and to work through them. Calls can be made from 2 classrooms in the same city, or between 2 classrooms in different parts of the world. It is also possible for multipoint conferences to take place, where more than 2 schools to take part in the same call.

Live video conferences have many advantages over other multimedia resources, such as video recordings or television presentations, but the main advantage is that they are interactive, allowing you to talk face to face with someone more “real-time”, but in another Location. This is great for to get high levels of participation by its students.

Multipoint videoconferencing

Videoconferencing simultaneous among three or more points away is possible through a Multipoint Control Unit (MCU). This is a bridge that connects calls from various sources (in a manner similar to the well-known conference call audio). All parties call the network identification number of the unit or the MCU MCU unit can also call on the parties that are involved, in sequence. There are bridges MCU IP and ISDN-based videoconferencing. There MCU that are pure software, and others that are a combination of hardware and software. A MCU is characterized based on the number of simultaneous calls that can handle.

The videoconferencing technology

The use of basic technology in a videoteleconference (VTC) is in the system of digital compression of audio and video in real time.

Dedicated systems have all the necessary components packaged into a single team, usually a console with a high-quality remote control video cameras at the top. These cameras can be controlled from a distance to move in the horizontal and vertical direction (pan and tilt, respectively), as well as zoom in the image, which are called PTZ cameras. The console contains all electrical interfaces, control of the computer, modem, and software or hardware based codec. Omnidirectional microphones are connected to the console, as well as a TV monitor with speakers and / or a video projector.
